ElevenLabs Launches Hosted MCP for AI Assistants

ElevenLabs has transitioned its Model Context Protocol (MCP) integration from a local developer project into a fully hosted service. Originally introduced in April 2025 as a local server requiring manual API keys, the updated version released on August 17, 2026, deprecates the old GitHub repository in favor of a hosted setup. This new architecture uses OAuth authentication, removing the technical friction of managing local servers and API keys for users who want to connect ElevenLabs to external AI assistants.

Through this hosted MCP, compatible assistants like Anthropic's Claude and Claude Code can directly create, configure, and manage ElevenLabs voice or chat agents. Users can adjust prompts, swap voices, duplicate or delete agents, and monitor estimated language model usage and costs within their chat interface. The integration provides access to more than 50 models spanning voice, music, images, and video, alongside core speech generation and transcription features.

For practitioners, this shift streamlines workflows by embedding audio generation directly into broader tasks. A user can draft a script with an assistant and immediately command it to generate the voiceover without switching tabs. While the hosted MCP supports conversational control, developers can still use the ElevenLabs CLI to manage agents as code in version control. Additionally, a separate Cursor integration allows voice agents to trigger background coding tasks, though this specific feature requires a paid Cursor plan and a Cursor API key rather than the standard OAuth connection.

The system manages security by scoping authorization to specific workspaces, allowing permissions to range from read-only access to full agent management. While ElevenLabs' documentation primarily highlights Claude and Claude Code, the setup instructions also reference ChatGPT, Cursor, and Hermes. This expanding compatibility means developers can leverage remote MCP servers to consolidate their tech stack, potentially making the standalone ElevenLabs dashboard a secondary tool.
